EL AL Drives Growth Strategy: Significant Expansion of Boeing 787 Dreamliner Fleet and Enhanced Customer Experience
Frankfurt am Main, April 16, 2026. EL AL announces a strategic move to expand its aircraft fleet. This is part of the company's long-term plan to increase its production capacity, improve profitability, and optimize the customer experience.
EL AL is exercising options for six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft and extending the agreement with additional options for the later acquisition of up to six more aircraft of this type. Furthermore, some of the aircraft from the existing 787-9 order book will be converted to the Boeing 787-10 model. This is the highest capacity, most advanced, and most efficient model in the Dreamliner family.
With this step, EL AL aims to offer more seats, significantly improve flight availability, and expand its route network, especially on long-haul routes, while simultaneously increasing operational efficiency.
The expanded fleet will significantly enhance the offering for customers. The focus is on a first-class premium experience in all cabin classes, improved comfort, and full compliance with the highest standards of the international air travel market.
EL AL's Dreamliner fleet is set to grow from the current 17 aircraft to 28 by the end of the decade, with the option to expand to up to 34 aircraft if needed. This strengthens the company's position as a significant player in the international air travel market.
Levy Halevy, CEO of EL AL, said: “We are making targeted investments in a modern fleet that creates dual value for both our customers and our shareholders. The expansion of the 787 Dreamliner fleet allows us to increase capacity, improve efficiency, and provide a flight experience of the highest standard. This is a central pillar of our strategy to build a modern, profitable, and market-leading airline.”
Amikam Ben Zvi, Chairman of the Board of EL AL, said: “Especially in the current situation, the conclusion of such a significant agreement with Boeing is excellent news for EL AL. The agreement allows for the acquisition of six additional Dreamliner aircraft as well as further purchase options. We are building a strong company with a long-term strategy and vision, possessing a broad and innovative fleet, led by the world's most modern 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The company's economic resilience is stronger than ever and will continue to grow in the coming years thanks to the dedication of its employees.“
Kenny Rozenberg, Majority Shareholder of EL AL, added: “Time and again, we have the privilege of positioning EL AL, the Israeli airline with its extraordinary human diversity and unique character, alongside the world's leading and largest airlines. This is another chapter in EL AL's history that will lead the company to new heights – as one of the world's leading airlines, proudly representing Israel.”
