A New Era Begins at Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus
Frankfurt am Main / Istanbul, April 21, 2026 | Hilton (NYSE: HLT) today unveils the redesigned Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus, marking a milestone for Istanbul's most famous hotel overlooking the Bosphorus. As the longest-standing Hilton hotel outside of the Americas, the redesign reflects how Hilton is redefining hospitality for today's travelers, building on its seven-decade history as Istanbul's first international host.
The hotel presents a reimagined experience that blends its mid-century heritage with contemporary design, modern technology, world-class event spaces, and elevated gastronomy. All of this can be experienced in one of the world's most culturally rich and dynamic cities.
Since its opening in 1955, it has become a symbol of modern hospitality and international glamour in Turkey. It played a formative role in shaping Istanbul's social life – as a venue for opulent weddings and international events, and by introducing traditions that spread throughout the city, such as Istanbul's first happy hour. Even today, it remains an important social hub in the city, hosting social and business gatherings throughout the year.
The hotel showcases a new look for the Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand, harking back to the glamorous era of travel in the 1950s. The redesign encompasses all 475 guest rooms and suites, as well as a new selection of restaurants and meeting points. Additionally, more than 4,000 square meters of event space are available. With this, the hotel continues its long-standing tradition as a venue for celebrations, culture, and gatherings of all sizes. The hotel's iconic outdoor pool, whose shape is inspired by the footprint of Hilton's founder Conrad Hilton and symbolizes the company's growing presence outside of the Americas, remains a central feature. Further enhancements, including the spa, indoor pool, and fitness facilities, are scheduled to be unveiled this summer.
“Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus is at the heart of Conrad Hilton’s vision to spread the light and warmth of hospitality around the world. For more than 70 years, it has been an integral part of Istanbul, a truly unique city that connects East and West and brings people together. Now, as the hotel enters its next chapter, we are proud that it has been carefully redesigned for the future while continuing to stand as a strong symbol of Hilton’s long-standing commitment to Turkey,” said Simon Vincent, CBE, President Europe, Middle East & Africa, Hilton.
“Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus is one of our most iconic hotels, with its origins tracing back to Conrad Hilton. It has long been one of the defining expressions of Hilton’s history, a place where the energy of the city comes alive through celebrations, shared encounters, and unforgettable stays,” said Leonard Gooz, Global Brand Leader, Hilton Hotels & Resorts. “With this transformation, we have built on that foundation by blending rich heritage, modern design, and dynamic social experiences. These will continue to shape how guests and locals experience Istanbul for years to come.”
Design Rooted in History
Originally designed in the 1950s by the globally renowned Chicago architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in collaboration with Turkish architect Sedad Hakki Eldem, Istanbul-based design studio Autoban has reinterpreted the hotel's heritage, blending modernist influences with allusions to Turkish craftsmanship, art, and poetry.
Authentic architectural elements designed by Sedad Hakki Eldem continue to be central to the property's identity, including the entrance canopy, reminiscent of a flying carpet, the outdoor pool, which remains the largest hotel pool in Istanbul, and the original, handcrafted Çintemani tiles adorning the hotel's walls.
Throughout the hotel, traditional details are carefully reinterpreted – from installations featuring the original 1955 logo to restored traditional Turkish motifs in the lobby, symbolizing abundance and protection. Gentle curves, inspired by Istanbul's seven hills, and architectural allusions to the city's domes characterize the surfaces, adding character to the public areas.
This sense of place continues in the guest rooms and suites, whose interiors reflect the colors of the Bosphorus and the sunrise over Istanbul. Natural materials such as marble, wood, metal, and leather create warm, inviting spaces with generous windows, private balconies, and terraces. From there, guests can enjoy wonderful views of the city skyline, the Bosphorus, and the hotel's expansive gardens.
Statement Suites
Four distinctive suites each reflect a unique chapter of the hotel's history. Located under the building's striking dome, the Imperial Suite pays homage to the legacy of “Cloud 9,” Istanbul's first discotheque, originally housed in the hotel. Features include a private cinema room, honoring the hotel's connection to the world of film, as it has hosted numerous Hollywood stars over the years.
The Bosphorus Suite captures the serene hues of the strait below. The Presidential Suite boasts expansive views of the Bosphorus. The Ambassador Suite honors the heads of state and cultural figures who have stayed here over the decades.
A Culinary Revival
Food and beverage are central to the hotel's redesign, solidifying its role as one of Istanbul's most vibrant meeting places. Here, conversations, culture, and culinary delights merge throughout the day. This spirit is rooted in a long tradition of Turkish hospitality: after Conrad Hilton learned of the local custom of greeting guests with coffee and liqueur, he introduced the ritual of the “welcome coffee” – a gesture of hospitality that later became a hallmark of Hilton hotels worldwide.
At the forefront of the culinary offerings is Malva, the hotel's upscale restaurant. Here, Turkish culinary heritage is brought into the modern era. Forgotten regional recipes are reinterpreted through modern techniques and seasonal ingredients, celebrating the flavors that have shaped the country's identity.
Sazzou is a cozy late-night retreat. Here, curated vinyl sets, carefully selected live jazz sessions, and masterful mixology blend in perfect rhythm, connecting to the legacy of musicians who once performed and resided at the hotel.
At the heart of the hotel is Lalou, an elegant lobby brasserie with a terrace, inviting guests to gather and meaning as much as “pleasant chatter.” The space is inspired by the glamour of the hotel's early decades and features jewel-like details subtly reminiscent of a sapphire necklace worn by Sophia Loren during a visit. Along with patisserie, light dishes, and freshly prepared cocktails, guests are invited to pause, linger, and become part of the scene.
Arlo presents itself as a modern restaurant inspired by Istanbul's seven hills. Here, the city's multifaceted culinary heritage is enriched by the coastal flavors of Turkey, Greece, and Italy, making a conscious commitment to sustainability.
A long-standing institution in Istanbul's dining scene, Dragon serves authentic Cantonese and Sichuan cuisine. In summer, it offers views of the Bosphorus from the garden, while in winter, guests can enjoy a cozy indoor ambiance.
Around the swimming pool, Bosolei captures the lightness and glamour of the French Riviera. On sun-drenched days, wood-fired flavors, exquisite wines, and signature cocktails unfold, while private cabanas offer an exclusive poolside retreat.
Istanbul's Most Legendary Celebrations Take Place Here
With more than 4,000 square meters of event space, including the Ambassador Ballroom and the divisible Connie Ballroom, and a total capacity of up to 2,500 guests, the hotel remains one of Istanbul's premier venues for significant events. The facilities include outdoor garden areas for up to 500 people, as well as 17 meeting rooms. This makes the hotel the perfect place for social and business events.
An Oasis in the Heart of Istanbul
Nestled in expansive gardens in the Harbiye district, the hotel offers an oasis of tranquility amidst the city's vibrant energy. It is just minutes away from Beyoğlu, one of Istanbul's cultural and social centers, as well as Nişantaşı, a lively neighborhood with boutiques, cafes, and restaurants.
Guests of the hotel enjoy the benefits of Hilton Honors, Hilton's award-winning loyalty program.
