Startup Nation Israel: Artificial Intelligence to Personalize Tourism

Israel, January 5, 2026 – The Israeli Ministry of Tourism has announced the launch of a new innovation community. The initiative aims to leverage Israel's global leadership in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to technologically revolutionize the tourism sector and fundamentally modernize the travel experience.

Israel ranks seventh worldwide in the current “Government AI Readiness Index.” This technological expertise is now to be increasingly integrated into the tourism industry. The goal is not only to use technological innovations to increase efficiency but also to individually enhance each guest's journey – from inspiration and planning to on-site discovery.

“Talking Tourism”: Attractions & More Come Alive Through Generative AI
As one of its key future projects, the Ministry introduced “Talking Tourism.” This initiative uses generative artificial intelligence to make Israel's history and cultural heritage accessible in new ways. Visitors will be able to scan QR codes at selected locations to access AI-powered, immersive content. Unlike traditional audio guides, the narration can be individually adapted and will be available in multiple languages, making historical content contemporary, understandable, and vivid for travelers from all over the world.

The digital development is strategically supported by the Israeli Ministry of Tourism. Michael Yitzhakov, Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Tourism, pointed out that global investments in “Smart Tourism” are expected to reach approximately 40 billion US dollars in the next ten years. With AI, Israel aims to strengthen the competitiveness of its tourism offerings and make services more efficient. In parallel, the Ministry is working on a national policy paper to structure and guide technological integration in tourism.

From Destination to Experience
The initiative also reflects a shift in travel motivations: away from purely destination-oriented tourism, towards experience-oriented travel. The Ministry emphasizes that travelers are increasingly looking for special narratives and formats, such as festivals, sports events, retreats, or cultural immersion. AI is intended to help analyze trends and personalize recommendations. Israel thus aims to position itself not only as a geographical travel destination but also as a diverse experience hub, making travel planning easier, more individual, and more memorable overall.

The new innovation community serves as a platform that brings agile tech start-ups together with established players in the tourism industry. This ecosystem is intended to create practical solutions for specific challenges in travel – with the aim of modernizing and enhancing the hospitality sector as well.
